Coach Bio

Coach Jakeem "Coach G" Grant brings NFL experience home to North Texas. A product of Mesquite Horn High School, he starred at Texas Tech, where he finished as the Red Raiders' all-time leader in career receiving yards and earned All-American honors as a senior in 2015.

Drafted by the Miami Dolphins in 2016, Grant built a career as one of the NFL's most dangerous return specialists, with stops in Miami, Chicago and Cleveland and a 2024 offseason stint with Atlanta. In 2021 he was named to the Pro Bowl, earned his second straight Second-Team All-Pro selection, and set a Chicago Bears franchise record with a 97-yard punt return touchdown at Green Bay.

Now in his fifth year of coaching, Coach G joins the Kurators staff to lead wide receiver development — route running, hands, footwork, speed and making plays in space.

Coaching Philosophy

We compete to win every time we step on the field — but wins come from doing the little things right: preparation, discipline, effort, teamwork, accountability and consistency. Players are taught why we do things, not just what to do, so they learn to think, react and communicate on their own.

The standard is maximum effort with purpose. Mistakes are part of development; lack of effort, poor attitude and selfishness are not. No player should be afraid to make a mistake while competing at full speed — we correct it, teach the right technique and move forward.

Every athlete deserves coaching, encouragement and the chance to improve, whether they are the most talented player on the roster or still learning the game. Coaches lead by example, communicate with respect and challenge players while giving them the confidence to rise to it. Team comes before individual recognition, and parents are partners in building a positive, competitive environment.

When players leave the program, they should take more than football skills with them: confidence, discipline, resilience, leadership and the belief that their potential has no ceiling.
